During the 2021 Covid-19 shutdown, the largest Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary in Borneo found the perfect opportunity for a rebrand and create further global reach with a new website.
As a true sanctuary, Labuk Bay focuses on creating a safe haven for wildlife in their natural habitat by maintaining a dense mangrove forest with minimal human contact and great conservation efforts — an aspect they want to highlight in the new website. The website also tells the stories unique to the sanctuary such as the monkeys’ rare diet of pancakes, and the life story of Hanyut, the domesticated rescue otter.

In helping rebrand this sanctuary from scratch with very limited resources, I had to photograph and document the animals with the help of the park ranger, before designing and writing their new website.
As my first time being my own copywriting partner, we wanted to craft a brand narrative inspired by the real lives of animals in the mangroves. From the fierce territorial battles of alphas to the hidden sanctuaries of tiny venomous primates, our aim was to capture the wild, untamed spirit of this unique ecosystem.
